Belonging to Belmont Castle, the north-west lodge stands as a nineteenth-century gateway in Perth and Kinross. Built to mark the boundary between private land and public road, it still performs that job: stopping, separating, declaring. The main castle has vanished or retreated from memory, but the lodge remained, a sentinel without a kingdom.
