This blue commemorative plaque records: Bede House Built as a family home between 1815 and 1826. A Church of England Home for Waifs & Strays was opened here in 1892 and received Royal visits in 1893 and 1937. In 1967 the home was closed and is now a private dwelling.
Bede House served as a significant Church of England Home for Waifs & Strays from 1892 to 1967, providing care for orphaned and abandoned children and receiving visits from royalty.
