Bawn in Kilquire Lower — Report the wrong picture

Kilquire Lower holds a broken bawn wall and the ghost of a castle in its southwest corner. The wall stands eighty centimetres high around a rectangular patch of pasture, large enough for a household but small enough to forget. The castle remains unclassified, denied even the certainty of ruin. What is named is the wall; what is forgotten is the hands that built it and the life that filled the room now open to rain.

In undulating pastureland. An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District records a bawn wall (H 0.8m) enclosing sub-rectangular area (48.6 N-S; 43.1m E-W) (Lavelle 1994, 102, no. 696).
