Bawn in Dungar is a circular tower in County Offaly with a second circular stair tower attached to its south face, forming two adjoining circles instead of one. The unusual shape suggests a builder who refused to copy a neighbouring tower, perhaps forcing servants to learn the spiral stairs before they could reach the top. The levelled bawn beside it may have held carts, sheep or arguments, while the towers still stand on their slight rise to remind people that ingenuity, not size, can survive centuries.

Situated on a slight rise in upland area. Well preserved circular tower (OF043-052) with second circular tower containing spiral stairs attached to the S face of the main tower which gives an unusual ground plan of two adjoining circles. In the adjoining walled courtyard tot he E of the castle are the low wall footings of a levelled bawn that are contemporary with the circular tower house. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien.
