BATTLE SITE: FORD OF THE BISCUITS, 1594 in Clontymullan; Drumane

BATTLE SITE: FORD OF THE BISCUITS, 1594

What is recorded here

Mutton and biscuit crumbs still ghost the shallow water where Clontymullan men waded against Drumane in 1594. The ford gave both sides a narrow lane of death, forcing courage into a line thin enough to count. Men who charged hungry became the hunger the river still remembers.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as BATTLE SITE: FORD OF THE BISCUITS, 1594. Recorded period: POST-MED; C16TH. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
