Barrow

Barrow, unclassified

What is recorded here

Barrow is an unclassified archaeological site in County Galway, Ireland. It is one of two known barrows in the area, with a possible third mound hidden beneath dense bushes nearby. The site remains in pastureland, its full extent still unclear because overgrowth blocks access to the suspected third mound.
In pastureland. de Valera and Ó Nualláin (1972, 29, no. 11) noted a circular bushy area 'some 30m south' of the more westerly example (GA100-103----) of two barrows (see also GA100-103001-) and they believed it may have concealed 'a third mound'. On inspection in February 1985 the small clump of dense overgrowth was inaccessible and it was not possible to determine whether it was of archaeological significance or not.
