Barrow

Timoney (1984, 324, no. 14) describes this as follows: ‘This oval bowl-barrow, sited on gently sloping ground, measures 17.25m northnorthwest/southsoutheast by 15m and it is 1.40m high. There is no evidence for a bank or fosse and the edges of the base of the barrow have been squared by ploughing. Though this monument lies on flat ground southwest of no. 27 [SL014-209049-] it is not marked on the Ordnance Survey maps nor has it been referred to by any writer prior to 1980. Neolithic bowl barrow, dating to approximately 3000–2500 BCE. It is part of the Carrowmore megalithic complex, one of the earliest and most significant Neolithic burial sites in Ireland.
