What is recorded here

Barrow is a battered oval of earth and stone in County Galway, its wide inner ditch fading into rough pasture and quiet oblivion. Children were buried on the summit inside this forgotten ring, their small bodies trusted to keep a charge the adults never spoke about. The hill still stands beside ordinary fields, waiting for someone brave enough to ask what those children guarded.

Encircling a hillock in an area of rough pastureland. This very poorly preserved oval enclosure (c. 70m E-W; c. 60m N-S) is defined by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 2m, H 1m) and an internal fosse (Wth 7.5m) from N through E to S. At S it peters out and there is no visible surface trace elsewhere but the slope appears to be scarped from NW to N. A field boundary cuts across the hillock, close to its base, at W and quarrying has encroached upon N sector. Field-clearance material is evident on the SW slope.
