Barrow

Barrow, ring-barrow

What is recorded here

Barrow is a 31-metre ring-barrow on the SW edge of a prominent elevated area overlooking a deep ravine, marking the juncture of Gleninsheen, Aillwee and Boloona. People may have built its earthen bank and internal fosse to claim that boundary or honour someone the land still remembers. Stone walls now run along its W and S banks, turning an ancient marker into a living townland edge.
