Barrow

In rough reclaimed pasture, one of a group of barrows (LI040-055001/005-). Not marked on OSi historic maps. Identified by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 80.1; AP 5/2108) as a small circular cropmark of a possible ditch barrow. Also visible on aerial photographs (BGE 1/50000 2552) taken 03/11/1984 as part of Bórd Gáis Éireann Curraleigh West-Limerick gas pipeline. Faint trace of monument visible as circular cropmark on OSi orthophoto taken between 2005-12 and on Google Earth orthoimages. Ditch barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its identification from aerial photography highlights the importance of such surveys in uncovering previously unrecorded prehistoric monuments.
