Barrow

In improved, wet pasture, cut by land drains and watercourses, 42m SW of a main watercourse, which also marks a townland boundary with Ballincurra. The northern-most of a group of three contiguous ditch-barrows running roughly N-S. A cluster of three further ditch-barrows lie 35m to SW. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Monument identified by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 238: AP 5/2018) as a subcircular-shaped earthwork. Upstanding monument is clearly visible as a circular-shaped earthwork (diam. 13m) which appears to be defined by a fosse, as seen on OSi orthoimage taken 2005-2012, on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimage taken 25/03/2017. Ditch barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its location within a group of three contiguous barrows suggests a significant ritual or funerary landscape, though individual significance remains poorly documented.
