One of four barrows on Athenry golf course (GA083-066----; GA083-067----; GA083-068----; GA083-075----). On E end of a low ridge between the 13th and 14th fairways. Classified as 'bowl-barrow' (Topgr. Files, OPW) but described by Rynne (1991, 28-9) as a 'ring-barrow' (diam. c. 15m) it consists of a circular mound (diam. c. 9.5m), in fair condition, encircled by a fosse and a low external bank. Bowl barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age (c. 2000–1500 BCE). Such barrows are significant as funerary monuments reflecting early ritual practices and social organisation in Ireland.
