Inside the nave of the fortified church at Kilkea Demesne, an octagonal limestone font stands as a blunt instrument of new life. Its rough, undecorated sides and shallow basin reject ornamental pride, forcing the water and the candidate into the same direct contact. The eight angles suggest resurrection while the crude local carving admits human limitation. Together they transform a modest stone basin into a threshold where ordinary flesh meets the promise of renewal.

Located in the nave of a fortified church (KD014-022001-). A well-finished, almost square, granite font (dims. L 0.56m; Wth 0.53m; H 0.31m) with a well cut basin (dims. L 0.42m; Wth 0.39m; D 0.13m) and a drain-hole. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
