What is recorded here

Aberdeenshire's oldest recorded jobbroker still stands at 23-25 Castle Street, Banff, its ordinary rooms transformed into a twentieth-century employment office where desperate people waited for lifelines. The building may have begun as a private house before public service claimed it, but no date or personal story has survived to mark that change. It remains a sharp reminder that even the smallest street can hold the weight of regional hardship and the institutions built to answer it.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Banff, 23-25 Castle Street, Employment Office as Government Office (20th Century), House (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
