Crathes Castle stands in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, its precise location fixed to the nearest metre although no public entrance is guaranteed. The stones have watched human life for centuries, perhaps holding kitchens warm or halls loud during storms. Whether visitors entered through service doors or main gates remains unknown, but the castle still belongs to the memory of the place.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Banchory, Crathes Castle as No Class (event) (21st Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Crathes Castle, near Banchory, was built by the Burnetts of Leys in the early 16th century and significantly expanded in the late 16th century. It is important as a fine example of a Scottish Renaissance castle and is now a National Trust for Scotland property.
