Balquhain Castle stands as a massive quadrangular keep in Aberdeenshire, probably built in the 15th century for the Leslies, Barons of Balquhain. Mary Queen of Scots spent the night before the Battle of Corrichie in 1562, and the Duke of Cumberland burnt it in 1746. The lower walls remain extremely thick with deep recesses and narrow loops, enclosing the highest part of a knoll where some outbuildings can still be traced.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Balquhain Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Balquhain Castle was built in the 13th century by the MacHeth (or MacHeath) family, a powerful clan in the Moray region of Scotland. It is remembered as an important medieval stronghold associated with the resistance against English forces during the Wars of Scottish Independence.
