Ballytoohy Fort is a fading oval rath on a Galway grassland rise, its bank barely visible and its southern ditch reduced to a dark band of vegetation. The northern gap may be original, inviting imagination about who entered or fled. It is the kind of place where human life vanished so completely that only the shape of absence remains.

On a rise in grassland. Very poorly preserved oval rath (NW-SE 33m, NE-SW 26m) defined by a denuded bank, which is visible intermittently, and a scarp. A very shallow external fosse survives along S and is visible elsewhere as a dark band of vegetation. A gap (Wth 3.2m) at N may be original.
