Ballykine Castle

Ballykine Castle lies broken in County Mayo, its stones scattered across a landscape that no longer remembers the hands which built it. The ruin preserves no chamber, chamber roof or named room, only the shape of what disappeared. A person may have stood inside when the walls were whole, watching rain strike a window now reduced to a hole in the earth. The castle has lost every claim except the claim of absence, which is why it still stops a traveller before they know they have stopped.
