Ballone Castle — Report the wrong picture

Castlehaven rose above perpendicular rocks in the early 1600s, its square and round corner towers guarding the coast for the MacKenzies. The building kept two storeys of defiant stone long after the courtyard vanished, while the sea wrote itself into the walls. It is no longer called Castlehaven, but the cliff still holds the shape of the house that resisted forgetting.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Ballone Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Ballone Castle was a medieval stronghold, likely built in the 13th or 14th century by a local noble family in the Galloway region of Scotland. It is remembered for its strategic position and as an example of early Scottish castle architecture in a historically contested border area.
