Ballindoon Church (in ruins)

At E end of Doon Hill close to beach. Site of a medieval parish church. When visited by OS in 1838 only 'a fragment of the S sidewall... seven feet [2.13m] high and twenty feet [12.8m] long' survived (O'Flanagan 1927a, Vol. 3, 97, 101). No visible surface trace survives. Ballindoon Church, a medieval parish church, was likely built in the 13th or 14th century; its remains suggest a small stone structure, and it is dedicated to Saint John. The site is significant as a rare surviving example of early Christian settlement in the region.
