Ten men fell from a B-17 into Cave Hill on 1st June 1944, lost in cloud while trying to reach Nutts Corner. The memorial marks their absence, not just their death. A movie called Closing the Ring later carried their story into other lives, but the hill still holds the first version: sudden, dark, and unvisited by most.
A memorial to the ten crew members of a B-17 which crashed into Cave Hill on the 1st June 1944 when flying through cloud while attempting to land at Nutts Corner airport. The story of this event inspired the 2007 movie "Closing the Ring".
