What is recorded here
Freestanding gate screen built, c.1900. The structure is constructed in granite. The square paired gate pillars each have a pedestrian wrought-iron gate and are constructed in rusticated granite and have pyramidal caps. The original coach gates are now missing. The canted screen walls have a level change with a curved ramp and a further square gate pillar to either side. The gate screen is road fronted.
Despite the loss of the original coach gates this large gate screen has a strong street presence. It announces the existence of a large and important building and in so doing adds character to the streetscape. It has a strong group value with the gate lodge and the mill.
