On 1 May 1992, two active service units struck the British checkpoint north of Cloghoge, destroying the complex and wounding twenty-three soldiers while killing one. The sudden violence exposed the fragile safety of that busy border crossing, reminding everyone that even routine travel could become a battlefield.
