Brodick Castle stands on Arran with a fire pond beside its ancient walls. The pond catches light and shadow, giving the castle a living edge. People may have gathered there to watch flames dance on water, marking time or celebrating seasons. The castle and pond still belong to Arran, unchanged in their purpose.
