Clonagh castle lost two coat-of-arms plaques before they reappeared in the gate piers of a Johnstown Bridge school. Gerald, eleventh Earl of Kildare, and Sidney, Lord Deputy of Ireland, still face the village road after travelling two miles from their castle origin. Children have probably passed them daily without knowing they are refugees from a demolished house.

Built into the gate piers of a school near the centre of Johnstown Bridge village. Two square plaques (dims. c. 0.5m; c. 0.5m) one bearing the coat-of-arms of Gerald, eleventh Earl of Kildare, and the other those of Sidney, Lord Deputy of Ireland; which according to O'Leary (1896-9, 135-8) came from Clonagh castle (KD003-017----) c. 2 miles to the W.
