What is recorded here
Kilkea Demesne holds a 17th century FitzGerald heraldic shield, still bright enough to challenge the men who flew it into history. Lord Walter FitzGerald gathered the plaque with other monuments inside a modern arcade south-west of the castle, giving forgotten stone a room where it can be seen. The fit between old pride and new arrangement is not deception; it is hospitality.
A 17th century FitzGerald heraldic shield; one of several monuments gathered together by Lord Walter FitzGerald in a modern arcaded area, south-west of the castle (KD037-017002-). (Bradley et al. 1986 vol. 3, 280)
