Jervise saw foundations forming two sides of a square, but he may have read ordinary farm walls as noble ambition. The dated lintels still belong to people who lived, married, ruled or departed near that ground. Countess Jean Campbell and the unknown hand of 1625 turned a forgotten field into a chamber where absence keeps speaking.
