Architectural fragment in Saints Island

Associated with the Augustinian priory (LF026-016002-). This architectural fragment was discovered and photographed by N.W. English c. 1975 in the nave of the church (pers. comm. H. Murtagh): its present location is unknown. The photo (attached) shows a stone estimated at c. 1m high with what appears to be a relief carving of the mitred head of an ecclesiastic (bishop?) surmounted by other decorative motifs: a date in the 15th century would be in keeping with the style employed. The original provenance of the stone is unknown but the possibility that it might originally have formed part of a cloister arcade is an attractive supposition (pers. comm. C. Manning).
