Architectural fragment in Northampton

Architectural fragment

What is recorded here

Unknown church, lost name, rescued stone. The fragment leans above the water like a marker dropped into forgetting. What is missing is the point: a holy well remembers the shape of absence.
Associated with a holy well (GA113-171----). The head of a two-light cusped ogee-headed window is set above the narrow pointed opening to the well. A plain roughly hewn cross with a round base is set behind it. The origin of the fragment is unknown. (Korff and O'Connell 1985; Gosling 1987, 9-10) Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 5 May 2023 Gosling 1987, 9-10.
