Architectural fragment in Leggetsrath West

In the OPW store, Kilkenny (Kilkenny depot stone carving number: KD007). A carved limestone head (L 0.21m; Wth 0.13m; D 0.14m) in low relief. The head, which appears to be of a bishop, has almond-shaped eyes and a flat nose, both in relief, which splays towards the nostrils,and a small incised mouth. The face tapers to a rounded point. He appears to be wearing a mitre, which bears some suggestion of lightly incised decoration. The triangular peak of the mitre is partially broken. A portion of the cheek on the sinister side has broken off. Stylistically this dates to the 15th century.
