This record refers to a fragment of carved stone found in the 1900 in a crannog (MA093-027001-) in the centre of Lough Caheer. Knox (1908; 280-1) relates that stone was found by a local man at a depth of c. 1.2m within the stony foundation core of the crannog. The man removed the stone and built it into the wall of an outhouse at his home in Coolnaha townland. Knox, who did not see the stone and based his description on a second hand account and a sketch, records that it ‘appears to be the upper part of a Gothic window, ogival in type', which measured 'about 1½ feet [0.45m] by 1¼ feet [0.38m] by 1 foot [0.3m].'
