Kilmalkedar is an Early Christian and Medieval ecclesiastical complex at the foot of Reenconnell hill, overlooking Smerwick Harbour. Two holed stones once leaned against the alphabet stone before vanishing, perhaps pulled from the destroyed oratory above its doorway. The ridge peaks at 907 feet nearby, sheltering the site on both sides while the sea keeps its own counsel below. What is lost there does not disappear; it redeems itself in shape, memory and return.

The Early Christian and Medieval ecclesiastical complex at Kilmalkedar (KE042-026----) lies at the foot of the W slopes of Reenconnell hill, overlooking Smerwick Harbour. The Reenconnell ridge peaks at 907 feet/276m to NE of the site and the area around Kilmalkedar is sheltered on its N and S sides by spurs of this hill. (20) Two holed stones [see also [KE042-026020-] which formerly stood within the church were described by O'Sullivan (1931, 446) as .45m and .6m in height. An OPW photograph shows 2 such stones leaning against the base of the alphabet stone but both are now missing.
