What is recorded here

Kilkea Demesne holds a 16th century mantlepiece inside a modern arcade built by Lord Walter FitzGerald. He gathered several displaced monuments south-west of the castle, giving them one visible address instead of losing them in fields or ruins. The marble may have warmed a different hall, served a different family and witnessed ordinary lives now forgotten. It still stands where it can be touched, judged and remembered.
