What is recorded here
Kilkea Demesne holds an arcaded gallery where Lord Walter FitzGerald gathered scattered stones, yet three decorated pieces from a sixteenth-century mantlepiece have vanished without a trace. The remaining fragments sit in modern stone, waiting for eyes sharp enough to read what the missing parts once said.
The whereabouts of three decorated stones from a 16th century mantlepiece is unknown; one of several monuments gathered together by Lord Walter FitzGerald in a modern arcaded area, south-west of the castle (KD037-017002-). (Bradley et al. 1986 vol. 3, 280)
