Rathmines, Dublin: ABC was born there in 1883, and the whole Mediterranean later balanced on decisions he made. A boy from that south-city area grew into the admiral who sent planes into Taranto and held the sea lanes while Malta starved. Geography did not appear in his medals, but it shaped the shape of the wars he fought.
