Roadside. Flat slab raised above another slab by two small pillars; lower slab atop plinth of coursed stones. Roughly incised cross on lower slab; upper slab adorned with quartzite pebbles and flowers. Plaque reads "Altar of Penal Times - Mass was said here 1640-1800". The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). A small roadside altar dedicated to Saint Gobnait, associated with healing and beekeeping, features a roughly incised cross and a plaque beginning with "Alta," possibly a dedication or local name. The use of quartzite pebbles and flowers suggests ongoing folk traditions of veneration and offering.
