Alfred Harmsworth, 1st Viscount Northcliffe

Chapelizod in County Dublin gave birth to Alfred Harmsworth on 15 July 1865, the start of a life that would reshape British journalism. He grew into the publisher of the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror, using popular writing to direct public opinion through the Edwardian era and First World War. A boy from Ireland became the man Lord Beaverbrook called the greatest figure on Fleet Street.
