This blue commemorative plaque records: In these premises, built in 1962 for the West Riding County Council, was the office of Alec Clegg (1909-1984), Chief Education Officer of the WRCC from 1945-1974 and one of the foremost influences nationally on comprehensive education. Alec Clegg was a pioneering educator who significantly influenced the development of comprehensive education in Britain during his tenure as Chief Education Officer of the West Riding County Council from 1945 to 1974.
