Sir Thomas Lyon, Master of Glamis, raised Aldbar Castle around 1580 as a strong sandstone towerhouse with angle turrets, a high stair-tower, and a semi-circular bulge pierced for a gun. Patrick Chalmers later smothered that martial clarity in Victorian Gothic additions, proving that ownership can rewrite memory as easily as mortar. The castle was demolished circa 1966, leaving only a flat field where stone once resisted time.
