Ahanure Bridge

Single-arch limestone road bridge over river, c.1900, possibly incorporating fabric of earlier bridge, pre-1840, on site. Broken coursed cut-limestone walls with cut-limestone stringcourse, and rendered chamfered coping to parapet. Single camber arch with rock-faced cut-limestone voussoirs, and squared limestone soffits having render over. Sited spanning Kings River with grass banks to river.

Replacing an earlier crossing indicated on archival editions of the Ordnance Survey a small-scale bridge displaying a traditional construction in locally-sourced limestone forms an element of the late nineteenth- or early twentieth-century civil engineering heritage of County Kilkenny.
