Adrian Hardiman was born in Coolock, County Dublin, on 21 May 1951, the son of a teacher who led the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland. He studied history at University College Dublin and law at the King's Inns before joining the Supreme Court in 2000, where he served until his death in Portobello on 7 March 2016. His life moved from classroom discipline to national judgement, carrying the clarity of teaching into the weight of law.
