Linked to St Fillan, an 8th-century Irish monk and healer, the well is associated with cures for skin ailments and general healing. St Fillan was known for his ascetic practices and is venerated in parts of Scotland, particularly in Fife, where his wells and churches often mark sites of early Christian pilgrimage.
