Aberdour Castle still stands in Fife, though the official record offers no more than a point on a map and no warning about what that point hides. Aberdour Castle was built in the late 13th or early 14th century by the de Aberdour family, a prominent Scottish noble lineage. It is important as a well-preserved example of a medieval tower house and as a site associated with historical events during the Wars of Scottish Independence.
