Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Abbey Hill as Clearance Cairn (post Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Clearance cairn, post-Medieval period. These cairns were typically formed from stones cleared from agricultural land and have local significance in understanding historical land use and rural settlement patterns.
