Mourne Abbey stands in Magheramurphy, County Down, its graveyard holding the remains of people who lived beside the mountain long before modern records named the stones. The abbey likely served as a place of prayer, work and burial for nearby families, while the graveyard marked death as an ordinary part of local life. Whatever prayers were spoken there, the stones still belong to the living memory of the area.
