Windmill Stump

Windmill Stump in County Down retains the buried shape of an eighteenth-century windmill, large enough to command the landscape before disappearing under grass and memory. The wooden sails may have torn free in a storm or been removed to clear a road, leaving the stone stump behind like a forgotten verb.
