Ulster History Circle plaques record the birthplace of scientist William Thomson, later Lord Kelvin, who lived 1824 to 1907. The exact house has not survived, but the wider College Square East site still belongs to the story. A child may have taken first steps near that address before changing how people measured heat, time and distance.

Lord William Thomson, also known as Lord Kelvin, was a pioneering physicist and engineer whose work on thermodynamics and the development of the Kelvin scale of temperature measurement significantly advanced scientific understanding in the 19th century.
