This brass commemorative plaque records: William Spiers Bruce LLD FRSE (1867-1921) oceanographer and polar explorer. In this building Bruce established the Scottish Oceanographical Laboratory formally opened by the eminent oceanographer H.S.H. Price Albert I of Monaco on 16 January 1907.
