William Paterson, born in County Antrim, Ireland, is one of the founding fathers of the United States and a signer of the United States Constitution. He was the first resident of New Jersey to sign the Constitution, and he was the first Supreme Court justice to be appointed. He served as a justice from 1793 to 1806, and he was a member of the Federalist Party.
