This blue commemorative plaque records: William Booth (1829-1912) Founder of the Salvation Army and Catherine Booth (1829-1890) Co-founder, the 'Army Mother', lived here 1858-1861. Catherine preached her first sermon in Gateshead in 1860. Recorded plaque organisation: Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council.
William Booth founded the Salvation Army in 1865, a Christian organization providing social support and spiritual guidance globally; Catherine Booth, co-founder and known as the 'Army Mother', was a pioneer in women's ministry rights and preached her first sermon in 1860.
